Jazzing up machine-wrapped Cords

by Maggie Grey

In our Quilting Arts Gifts™ special issue, Maggie Grey showed how to make darling little lacy pouches, perfect for hiding a small treasure on your tree.

Here are her tips for decorating the cords that form the tassels and trims on the bags.

Tips for jazzing up the cords

  • Pick up beads on a matching thread. Wrap it around the cord, spreading the beads evenly, and then work bursts of satin stitch over the cord and beads. Don’t machine over the beads!
  • Stitch the cord around the tassel and then work up the bag to the top. Form a loop.
  • Make a very fine cord and loop it to form a tassel. Wind thicker cord around the top for the tassel head.
  • Stitch little charms or fancy beads to the cord where it joins the bag.
