Duke Ellington Fabric Art Hi, I have been quilting for 15 years and began as a traditional quilter. Early in my career, I was drawn to bright colors and used those, instead of the calicos and muted colors. In using jewel toned and bright colors, my quilts suddenly came alive, even though, I was using the same commercial quilting patterns. Other quilters started calling my quilt "interesting, but not my style". I pushed forward and started doing Colour Wash or Water Color Quilts with florals. This was working with cutting 2 1/2 inch squares to form any pattern by using color values and sewing them together.
In 2002, I began to read and take classes in Quilted Photography. This is making quilts from photographs and I mainly used close cropped photos. The process is scanning a photograph and using a software program to create a pattern. Seven years later, I am still passsionate about my Art Quilts and I am always working on another image.
During the past year, I have become interested in all sorts of art quilts and have learned quite a bit about using different techniques. I love buying all sorts of mixed media, surface designs and particularly, photo art quilt books. My mind is open to learning as much as I can and have a lot of fun trying out new ideas. Thanks for visiting.
