I have taken 5 classes at QuiltUniversity.com. It's terrific! They post new lessons every friday so you can begin working on your new homework that weekend. Most classes run from 3 to 6 weeks. They have a forum where you can post questions and interact with other students which is very helpful. Most...

  • Re: Hello from North Carolina - I have a question...

Hi Debbie, Happy 4th to you too. I am also celebrating my 19th wedding anniversary today. In celebration, my husband helped me soda soak some PFD cotton and silk and make 5 batches of dye concentrate. What a good day! In answer to your printer question, I use an Epson printer because of the pigma ink...

  • Re: shaving creme marbling

Caren- Your efforts with marbling look good. A demonstrator at a recent Sewing Expo used shaving cream for a silk screen project. She mentioned that it is not necessary to scrape off the excess cream as it evaporates in time. There is a residue of filminess left behind which comes off after heat setting...

  • Re: Setting fabric dyes

Hi... again. You are speaking my language here! I say, thicken it. It will stay where you intend it to be if you thicken it. With MX dyes, you must batch but unlike with some paints this doesn't mean heat setting, it means placing in a sealed container over night.

  • Color Wash

I have read several posts asking about Color Wash. They are from Ranger and Tim Holtz - Adirondack Color Wash. They come in the same color palette as the alcohol inks. I have several tutorials on my blog on how to use Color Wash in different ways with fabric and on paper. I have one on my Art Techniques...

  • Re: Dyeing with easter egg dye

It did not do as I expected. The primaries that made up the colors did weird things on their own in the grn, orange and purple. The color brightened somewhat, and it streaked in the secondaries . I died the center 1/3 of each piece. I used cotton yarn to tie off each end of the third and put the center...

  • Re: Dyeing with easter egg dye

Oops Jim, about the scorching! I guess I should have said that when I nuke it, I nuke it with the fabric in the dye solution and clingfilm on top! Think of it like you would cook food. you need to be sure there is some water going on in there. The colver makes it so the steam stays in to dish. Some people...
